This depends on the type of anesthetic used. For situations where general anesthesia is NOT used, sedating medications are usually given to help relax you and diminish your memory of the operation. It is always possible to have memory of voices or sounds in the operating room during one of the “awake” anesthetics (MAC or regional anesthesia).
